The beauty bits I took on my city break

I’m a big time travel addict, and when I can’t muster up the money/holiday allowance/energy to go on a long-haul trip, I love a good city break. This past week, I visited Florence in Italy. It was my first time in Italy, which I kind of can’t believe! The trip was full of gelato-eating, city-wandering and gallery-hopping, so in short, was the perfect little getaway.

I always struggle with packing for trips away. Anyone that has ever travelled with me (or even some people who have not, like the guy at the train station who offered to help me up some stairs with my suitcase then quickly regretted it) knows I do NOT pack light. But I’ve been trying to be a little less excessive when it comes to my beauty stash, and I think I am definitely improving (by beauty industry standards, at least!). Here’s what I took with me on my most recent trip…

My focus is on versatile, 2-in-1 products that are packaged suitably for travel.

A flannel: Since meeting Arabella Preston, founder of Votary (and a huge flannel advocate), I always try to use flannels rather than muslin cloths, which kind of creep me out because of their weird texture.

Clinique Pepstart Purifying Bubble Mask: It’s packaged in a plastic tube and only needs to be left on for two minutes, making it super handy for taking away and for quick on-the-go masking.

Chantecaille Gold Energizing Eye Recovery Masks: My eyes get really sore and tired when I fly, so these are perfect for afterwards. Personally recommended to me by Slyvie Chantecaille for use on drying aeroplanes (hashtag humblebrag).

RMS Ultimate Makeup Remover Wipes: Looks like a condom. Isn’t a condom (Rose-Marie is such a character, she probably packaged them like that on purpose). Basically bits of soft cloth covered in coconut oil. The only makeup wipes I will use, and super handy for travel.

Frances Prescott Tri Balm: Formulated by my beloved makeup artist friend Frances, this is the BEST evening cleanser ever. It comes with me everywhere.

Glossier Super Bounce Serum: A no-frills serum packed with Hyaluronic Acid, it’s great for both AM and PM which makes it perfect for taking away.

Skinceuticals Brightening UV Defence: Last time I saw my friend Martha, who works for the communications team that looks after Skinceuticals, I got a bit of a telling off for not wearing SPF every day (quite rightly). She promptly whizzed this over and I now wear it religiously.

La Prairie Line Interception Power Duo: I am told this may be a little rich for my skin, but it’s so luxe and lovely to use and comes with a day and night moisturiser, I just can’t live without it when I go away.

My focus is on finding minis of my favourite products and I won’t leave home without a favourite scent.

L’oreal Paris Elnett Satin Mini Hairspray: No explanation needed. The original. The best. And it’s mini.

Le Labo Santal 33 perfume: The least practical bottle to travel with, but I can’t live even a day without it at the moment. I know; I’m a walking, talking beauty industry stereotype.

Travel Compact Tangle Teezer: A genius solution to the dreaded hair-brush-on-holiday nightmare.

OUAI Rose Hair & Body Oil: Love using this after washing my hair while it’s still damp, as well as all over my body as a moisturiser. Super versatile, just make sure it doesn’t leak… nightmare.

OUAI Texturizing Hair Spray: My favourite is the Sam McKnight Cool Girl Spray, but this is up there – and it comes in a mini size.

L’occitane Mini Shampoo & Conditioner: Truthfully, I struggle to find a travel-sized duo that I love to take on my travels with me. These were nice, though.

Byredo Gypsy Water Hair Perfume: A necessary travel addition, right?! Smells like angels.

I’m not as selective when it comes to makeup. I end up taking way more than necessary, from three bases to about a hundred lipsticks…

I won’t list it all, but here are some hero snippets:

Shiseido BB Sport SPF 50: Literally the most waterproof, glow-enhancing BB cream ever made. I wore this while zorbing down a hill in an inflatable ball of water in New Zealand and it did. Not. Budge.

Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick: I was recently very kindly sent a bunch of these and they are SO dreamy in texture and formula. Ultra creamy and lovely colours.

Rodin Luxury Lipstick in Winks: Obsessed with Linda Rodin. OB-SESSED.

Fenty Beauty MatchStix in Starstruck: SooooOooooOooooo pretty. Best applied onto the fingers before blending into the skin.

Christian Louboutin Les Yeux Noirs Lash Amplifying Lacquer – Khol: Bloody expensive but a bloody good mascara.

Glossier Boy Brow: I will not EVER use anything else on my brows again (probably…).

RMS Lipstick in RMS Red: When I met Rose-Marie Swift, the hilariously charismatic founder of RMS, she snuck me one of her brand new lipsticks on the sly. A beautiful true red shade and I love the ethos behind her organic brand.

Tom Ford Honeymoon Palette: Every beauty junkie must own this. It’s like a right of passage or something, right?!
